This year the Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 12 and the holiday will be from June 10-12. This festival dates back to over 2,000 years ago and commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan (340-278 BC). The main event of the festivities is the Dragon Boat Race. These boats are long and thin with dragon heads on the bow of the ships. The boat races are said to represent the search for Qu’s body, with racing boats in a forward rowing motion, to the rhythm of beating drums. Other activities include eating Zongzi which is pyramid-shaped glutinous rice wrapped in reed or bamboo leaves. Kai, one of our WOW ladies, is the drummer (in the picture) for the  CECP team  and  competing in 800m and the 2000m races. Kai would love WOW to come and cheer her along, I will update with times of the races as soon as I know.

The Acrobatics Light Show and Circus event has been extended until June 30! Truly a family affair, this 2-hour show succeeded in giving everyone the thrill and excitement the way every entertainment show ought to be! Here is a perfect opportunity to get to know more of the local Chinese population – Changjiang Weekly has a Volunteer Team which will be spending the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival with the elderly and you are invited to join!! On the morning of June 7, the Changjiang Weekly Volunteer Team will walk into a local community and spend some hours playing games with the locals. They also will be making zongzi and take them to the homes of the elderly. There are also some performances to watch, put on by the local community.
